This course has been developed specifically for personnel working in mineral mines and quarries who have responsibilities for emergency preparedness, response, and recovery activities.
The unit provides a comprehensive framework for planning, implementing, and maintaining emergency preparedness and response systems within mineral mining and quarrying operations. It covers the interpretation and application of site emergency management documentation, identification of mining and quarry-specific hazards and risks, allocation of resources, and ensuring personnel are trained and competent in their emergency response roles.
Participants will learn to apply emergency response plans to a range of potential incidents encountered in mineral mines and quarries, including fires, mobile plant incidents, slope or wall failures, hazardous substance releases, confined space emergencies, electrical incidents, flooding, and medical emergencies. The course emphasises effective communication during emergencies, coordination of response activities, use of emergency equipment, isolation and control of hazards, and management of emergency situations in accordance with site procedures and legislative requirements.
The unit also focuses on monitoring, recording, and reporting emergency incidents, participating in audits, reviews, and debrief processes, and implementing continuous improvement strategies. In addition, participants will develop the skills required to maintain emergency preparedness systems through routine inspections, testing, servicing, repairs, and accurate record-keeping to ensure ongoing operational readiness and compliance within mineral mine and quarry environments.
