RIIERR503D Implement emergency preparedness and response systems overview

This course focuses primarily on the application and implementation of the emergency preparedness and response system for the mine site.  This includes identifying potential emergency situations, potential risks, hazards and environmental risks and implementing control measures. The course focuses on the importance of identifying and clarifying roles and responsibilities within the organisation as they apply to emergency preparedness and response. It is essential to identify training needs required for position types, and allocate resources required to support the emergency preparedness and response plan at all levels.  Candidates will gain a solid understanding of the systems in place including understanding the type and scope of incidents, developing and implementing action plans to manage the emergency/incident.  Tailored specifically for experienced mine workers in senior roles within the industry, this course aims to enhance participants’ competencies to meet the evolving demands of their positions and facilitate their professional development. Through targeted training, candidates will acquire the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their roles and assume greater responsibilities within the mining sector.

Below are the key Mine Training Solutions internal entry requirements for enrolling in RIIERR503D Implement emergency preparedness and response systems:

  • Mining Industry Experience: Demonstrated experience working in the mining environment
  • Access to Company-specific systems: Participants must have current access to the mine’s Safety and Health Management System for on-the-job application of learning.

This training course is tailored for individuals in superintendent or management roles who are tasked with managing emergency preparedness and response in the mining industry.

Completing an emergency preparedness and response course can provide a wide array of benefits, including:

  • Skill Development: This course covers essential skills such as communication, delegation, planning and decision-making, helping participants to become more effective leaders in emergency preparedness and response.
  • Enhanced Safety and Risk Management: Participants will review the potential emergencies identified in the mine site’s formal risk assessment as required by law.  They will review recent industry incident reports and data to gain a strong understanding of the types of failures that occur in the industry.
  • Enhanced Problem-Solving Skills: Candidates will be identifying and analysing risk, and carry out an Ishikawa for a recent mining fatality to identify the relationship between the primary problem and the potential causes (failures) that led to the problem.
  • Networking Opportunities: This course brings together individuals from within the organisation, providing valuable networking opportunities. The ‘Third Parties’ utilised are people who are competent in the tasks candidates are asked to carry out, and provide mentoring to the candidate.  The use of third parties promotes communication and consultation in the mining industry, which is fundamental for the application and implementation of the mine’s Safety and Health Management System.
  • Increased Confidence: The structure and delivery of the Mine Training Solutions courses provide for experience in the real-time mining environment, which often leaves our candidates feeling more confident in their abilities, which can enhance their presence and effectiveness in team settings.

This approach provides positive outcomes not only for the candidates, enhancing their skills and knowledge, but also for the business, fostering a safer work environment and improving overall operational efficiency.

Learning in the workplace promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing among team members, strengthening your organisation’s safety culture and operational resilience. By choosing workplace-based training with Mine Training Solutions, you ensure that your team gains relevant, actionable skills that directly contribute to a safer and more efficient mining operation.

The Mine Training Solutions workplace activities will require third parties (senior and statutory position holders (content experts/mentors) to verify practical skill demonstration for set activities and provide feedback on what was observed when the candidate performed the set work tasks.  Feedback from third parties is an important part of our assessment process.  Our ‘Third Parties’ are people who are competent in the task candidates are asked to carry out and provide mentoring, guidance and feedback.  The use of third parties promotes communication and consultation in the mining industry, which is fundamental for the application, implementation and maintenance of the mine’s Safety and Health Management System.

In addition:

  • Engaging experienced mentors encourages open dialogue and interaction among candidates, mentors, and trainers, thereby creating a cohesive learning environment.
  • Incorporating third-party insights fosters a culture of consultation, ensuring that safety practices and operational procedures are shared and understood across all levels of the workforce.
  • By aligning practical skill development with feedback from experienced mentors, candidates are better equipped to understand and adhere to safety and health standards, ultimately promoting a safer working environment.

The integration of third parties into the training and assessment framework at Mine Training Solutions is essential for delivering high-quality vocational training. Their role not only aids in verifying candidate’s skills but also emphasises the importance of communication, safety, and continuous improvement within the mining sector.
