BSBLDR411 Demonstrate leadership in the workplace overview

This course focuses primarily on aligning employee behaviour and performance with that of the organisation’s values and objectives.  Understanding organisational values and evaluating one’s own performance is essential for both personal development and the overall success of the organisation.  The two need to be aligned.  When employees understand and share the organisation’s values, they are more likely to align their personal and professional goals with the organisation’s objectives. This creates a cohesive workforce working toward common goals.  Organisational values provide a framework that defines the culture and ethical standards of the organisation. They guide decision-making, behaviour, and interactions within the workplace.

Candidates undertaking this course are typically experienced mine workers at supervisory level.  Candidates may also be Senior or Statutory position holders in the management structure for the mine.

Candidates may be carrying out training in this unit of competency to obtain CPD hours as required by the practicing certificate scheme.  The Practising Certificate Scheme (PCS) has been established in Queensland to help manage risks by maintaining contemporary skillsets and knowledge in the mining industry. The scheme will ensure Certificate of Competency holders and Notice holders maintain contemporary knowledge and skills to support the effective exercising of their statutory functions.

Below are the key Mine Training Solutions internal entry requirements for enrolling in BSBLDR411 Demonstrate leadership in the workplace:

  • Mining Industry Experience: Demonstrated experience working in the mining environment.
  • Access to Company-specific systems: Participants must have current access to the mine’s Safety and Health Management System for on-the-job application of learning.

This course is specifically designed for people working at supervisory level or planning to move into a supervisory role.  These people are responsible for the quality and quantity of the work they perform and oversee others by providing instruction and supervision to those involved in mining activities.

Completing a leadership course can offer numerous benefits, whether you’re an emerging leader, a seasoned professional, or someone looking to enhance their leadership skills.

  • Skill Development: This course covers essential skills such as communication, delegation, planning and decision-making, helping participants to become more effective leaders.
  • Self-Awareness: This leadership course includes activities based around self-reflection. Understanding your own leadership style, strengths, and areas for improvement helps in personal growth.
  • Networking Opportunities: This leadership course brings together individuals from within the organisation, providing valuable networking opportunities. The ‘Third Parties’ utilised are people who are competent in the tasks candidates are asked to carry out and provide mentoring to the candidate.  The use of third parties promotes communication and consultation in the mining industry, which is fundamental for the application and implementation of the mine’s Safety and Health Management System.   It also promotes leadership as it allows leaders to communicate with team members they supervise as a part of their role at the mine site.
  • Increased Confidence: The structure and delivery of the Mine Training Solutions courses provide for experience in the real time mining environment which leaves our candidates often feeling more confident in their leadership abilities, which can enhance their presence and effectiveness in team settings.

Completing this course will help you improve your leadership skills.  Whether you are currently an appointed supervisor in the mining industry or someone who desires to move into a supervisory role or develop existing skills this course will be beneficial for your personal development and leadership skill development.  This course focuses primarily on aligning employee behaviour and performance with that of the organisation’s values and objectives.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for…

  • BSBLDR411 Demonstrate leadership in the workplace.

This credential recognises that you have met the required competencies outlined by the nationally endorsed training package.

Credit Transfer refers to the formal recognition of units of competency or qualifications that you have previously achieved through any Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in Australia. If you have already completed a unit identical or equivalent you may be eligible to apply for a credit transfer. To do so, you’ll need to provide:

  • Valid Evidence – A statement of attainment or official transcript showing the unit code and title.
  • Proof of Equivalency – The unit must match or be recognised as equivalent to the one in the course, as determined by current training package rules.

If approved, you will not need to repeat training or assessment for that particular unit, potentially reducing your overall study load and completion timeframe. If you have any questions regarding the credit transfer process, our team will be happy to provide guidance and support.

Mine Training Solutions offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment pathways for all of our nationally recognised units of competency and qualifications.  If you already have the skills, knowledge and workplace experience required for a unit of competency, you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.

Our RPL assessments are designed around the requirements of each nationally recognised unit of competency, ensuring your existing skills and knowledge are assessed fairly, consistently, and against the relevant industry and training package requirements.

What’s included in an RPL Kit?

Each RPL Kit has been developed specifically for the unit of competency and includes:

  1. RPL Application – Demonstrate your qualifications, training and workplace experience relevant to the specific unit of competency for which you are applying for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
  2. Knowledge Questions – Demonstrate the underpinning knowledge required by the unit of competency.
  3. Evidence Portfolio – Your RPL Kit clearly outlines the workplace documents and supporting evidence required to demonstrate your competency. Simply source the evidence and upload it directly to our Learning Management System (LMS).
  4. Third-Party Report – Independent verification of your workplace performance by an appropriately qualified supervisor, manager or other authorised workplace representative.

Assessment Outcome

Your completed RPL submission is reviewed by a qualified and appointed Mine Training Solutions Assessor. Where additional clarification or evidence is required, you may be asked to participate in a Competency Conversation or provide further supporting documentation before an assessment decision is made.

Recognition of Prior Learning is not an automatic recognition of previous employment, years of experience or prior job roles. It is a formal assessment process that determines whether you can demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to meet the requirements of the nationally recognised unit of competency.

Not sure if RPL is right for you?

Contact Mine Training Solutions to discuss your qualifications, training and workplace experience. We’ll help you determine whether Recognition of Prior Learning is the most appropriate assessment pathway or whether another training option would better suit your needs.

At Mine Training Solutions, workplace-based learning is designed to integrate seamlessly with your daily operations, ensuring that training enhances rather than disrupts your workflow.  Our workplace base approach allows participants to apply, implement and maintain the company-specific safety and health management system in real-time, fostering immediate practical understanding and reinforcing learning through actual job tasks.

Training schedules can accommodate shift work and different team schedules, allowing all relevant personnel to participate without impacting productivity. The workplace activities that candidates engage in directly contribute to the application and implementation of the company’s Safety and Health Management System (SHMS). This approach provides positive outcomes not only for the candidates, enhancing their skills and knowledge, but also for the business, fostering a safer work environment and improving overall operational efficiency.

Learning in the workplace promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing among team members, strengthening your organisation’s safety culture and operational resilience. By choosing workplace-based training with Mine Training Solutions, you ensure that your team gains relevant, actionable skills that directly contribute to a safer and more efficient mining operation.

The Mine Training Solutions workplace activities will require third parties (senior and statutory position holders (appointed supervisors, content experts/mentors) to verify practical skill demonstration for set activities and provide feedback on what was observed when the candidate performed the set work tasks.  Feedback from third parties is an important part of our assessment process.  Our ‘Third Parties’ are people who are competent in the task candidates are asked to carry out and provide mentoring, guidance and feedback.  The use of third parties promotes communication and consultation in the mining industry, which is fundamental for the application, implementation and maintenance of the mine’s Safety and Health Management System.

In addition:

  • Engaging experienced mentors encourages open dialogue and interaction among candidates, mentors, and trainers, thereby creating a cohesive learning environment.
  • Incorporating third-party insights fosters a culture of consultation, ensuring that safety practices and operational procedures are shared and understood across all levels of the workforce.
  • By aligning practical skill development with feedback from experienced mentors, candidates are better equipped to understand and adhere to safety and health standards, ultimately promoting a safer working environment.

The integration of third parties into the training and assessment framework at Mine Training Solutions is essential for delivering high-quality vocational training. Their role not only aids in verifying candidate’s skills but also emphasises the importance of communication, safety, and continuous improvement within the mining sector.
